Conjunction, by definition, is "the action or an instance of two or more events or things occurring at the same point in time or space." Referring to the Jungian concept of integrating the conscious ego and unconscious shadow, this work further expands upon the dual nature of existence and of the two sides that coinhabit every individual - both good and bad. The pastel colours present in the work, as well as many of others from the corner series, are a direct influence of the immediate environment of Hong Kong and can be seen all over the city adorning the façade of many public buildings. The palette, coupled with the playfully banal floral design on the walls, belie the weighty subject matter and are juxtaposed against the very delicate composition of the rug, adding yet another conceptual layer and sense of contradiction to the work.
