In Each of Us There is Another Who We Do Not Know, 2020

If we assume the arcade, at the individual level, is the self, and in the broader context society, then to point a gun at either is to point a finger at the destructive nature inherent in both. The other who we do not know, as referred to in the title of the painting, is this 'shadow self,' the malevolent, unconscious part of the psyche as referred to by Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung. The interior space depicted has no visible entry point, and more importantly, no exit. This further solidifies that the shadow self is an inescapable part of the psyche.
The featured rope also represents an ongoing motif. Rather than the perhaps superficial association with 'confinement' or 'imprisonment', the rope should be interpreted here as a Christian symbol representing 'conjunction' or the action or instance of two or more events or things occurring at the same point in time or space - or according to Jung, a moment of "suspension between irreconcilable opposites." The work specifically addresses the meeting of these two points: the ego, the concious self, and the malevolent part of the psyche, the shadow.
